About David
I came to distribution through editing.
History taught me to reconstruct the system around an artifact; editing taught me that form determines what reaches a reader. At Boston University I ran the Journal of the Core Curriculum as editor-in-chief and edited at Charcoal Magazine, then built the social presence for BU Libraries, where the interesting problem turned out to be deciding how content should meet an audience.
From 2023 to 2026 I worked at Big Think Media as the day-to-day editorial distribution lead on its flagship partnership with Stand Together. I joined as a community manager and transitioned to campaign manager in 2026. In practice, I moved between editorial judgment, systems, and evidence.
Editorial judgment
Which story, which angle, which format, which headline. I managed story selection and packaging for two newsletters, packaged two long-form documentaries and four short-form videos a month, and wrote the social copy for campaigns spanning the NFL, NBA, film premieres, and music partnerships.
Systems
I wrote the judgment down so it could scale: the living content standards governing every piece of social copy in the partnership, the two-day article-to-social process I co-designed, the video copy standards, and the publishing-control views that tracked collaborators, live links, and partner responses across campaign weeks. It is how a team can ship 41 pieces of content in one Super Bowl week with clear standards, visible handoffs, and a control system that catches problems before publication.
Evidence
I build post-campaign analyses to find out which decisions actually mattered. At My Cause My Cleats, the finding was blunt: league amplification decided reach, not creative quality, and it changed how the next cycle was planned. The case studies on this site walk through that finding and two others, plus what I owned, what the team owned, and what the campaign delivered.
Technical foundation
Technical and measurement fluency
My work sits close to the data layer. I completed Meta’s Database Engineer Professional Certificate, with training across SQL, MySQL, relational database design, data modeling, Python, Git/GitHub, Unix command-line tools, and Tableau. I also completed Google Analytics and HubSpot Inbound Marketing certification programs.
That training supports the work shown here: UTM architecture, performance-reporting systems, campaign analysis, dashboard interpretation, and translating platform data into decisions an editorial or campaign team can use.
What I’m looking for
I’m most useful when a strong story has to survive multiple channels, partners, approvals, and deadlines without losing its point. I’m looking for teams facing that kind of problem across audience development, editorial operations, integrated campaigns, partner activation, and owned communications.
Selected writing ยท 2022 honors thesis
“Why did everything look like this?”
Reading an ordinary landscape as evidence
My honors thesis began with a strip of road in Northfield, Ohio: cracked parking lots, empty storefronts, and a landscape I had spent years trying not to notice. It asks how the strip mall became a common American form and what its history reveals about mobility, consumer life, public space, and community.
It is an early version of the method behind this portfolio: begin with an ordinary artifact, reconstruct the system around it, then ask what that system allows people to see and do.
